You can use the iPad as an external screen for your computer. This will allow you to work on your art without having to look at a tiny screen, but still maintain a lightweight setup.

What you need:

iPad Pro Apple Lightning Cable Computer running Clip Studio Paint (and using it on a separate monitor) TV or second monitor that is compatible with your computer

1. Connect the iPad Pro to your computer via lightning cable.

2. Turn on extended desktop mode on your computer (if you are using Windows). This can be done by right-clicking on the desktop, going to “screen resolution” and selecting one of the “Extend Display” options, or setting it as “Duplicate these Displays”

3. Set the iPad as your extended display by going to “Display Settings” on your computer and selecting “Extend these displays”.

4. Open Clip Studio Paint

5. You should be able to work on your art now, with a second monitor to help you have a larger workspace!

Quit Clip Studio Paint and turn off the extended display on the computer (not the iPad). This is done by right-clicking on the desktop, going to “Screen Resolution” selecting one of the “Mirror Displays” options or setting it as “Show only on 1”. Connect your iPad Pro to your computer via lightning cable again. Your computer should detect your iPad and automatically switch to “Extend these displays” mode.

You can also set the resolution for Clip Studio Paint on the iPad, so it’s no longer a bit blurry. Head to Settings>Display and Brightness on your iPad Pro, then go to Display Zoom and change the resolution from a smaller option to a larger one.

1. Quit Clip Studio Paint

2. While holding down the Home button on your iPad, press the Lock button (top of the device) at the same time.

3. You should see a lock icon with an arrow facing to the right on the screen.

4. When you hold your iPad up to your computer, it should be recognized as a second monitor!

5. Open Clip Studio Paint and enjoy working on your art!

You can also use this method for other programs like Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator.

*For Windows 10 users: You can set up your iPad as an external monitor using Microsoft’s method here.

You need to download and install the app Air Display on both your computer and iPad Pro. Turn on extended display on the computer (not the iPad) via “screen resolution” in settings, or whatever it is called on your operating system. Set the iPad as the secondary monitor from there.

Open Clip Studio Paint and enjoy working on your art!

Note: If you’re not seeing anything happen after step 1, try restarting both devices. Sometimes it takes a few tries for this to work properly before successfully connecting them.

You can also use this method for other programs like Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator.
